Boating safely helps reduce the strain on first responders which in turn allows responders to direct more of their attention on Homeland Security efforts.

* BOAT SMART by taking a boating safety class and getting a courtesy Vessel Safety Check.
* BOAT SAFE by checking the weather, filing a float plan, staying sober and obeying Coast Guard regulations established after September 11 relating to Homeland Security.
* WEAR IT - Wearing your Personal Flotation Device (PFD) is the best thing that you can do to keep from becoming a statistic. According to the United States Coast Guard 8 out of every 10 victims in fatal boating accidents are not wearing life jackets.
